Skateboarder and musician Sage Elsesser is the new face of UGG, starring in a campaign for the Chestnut Tasman slipper. He explained his style philosophy in an interview with Hypebeast, stating that the greatest luxury is comfort.
Elsesser, who performs under the name Navy Blue, described his current personal style as a simplified uniform. He typically wears a monochrome hoodie or T-shirt, wide-legged pants, and clean footwear. This approach, he said, is about ease. He added that his style has simplified a lot, sticking to a low-profile uniform most days and that he's not big on loud graphics these days. The ease is not in the sense that it's easy, but in that there's a certain energy that comes with feeling like it's not too laborious to find inspiration.
For Elsesser, comfort is the common thread linking his work in skateboarding and music. He noted that dressing for both activities prioritizes how clothing fits and feels. He loves when people choose garments for comfort over pure function. This ethos directly connects to his partnership with UGG. He often feels like he's sneaking comfort into his daily outfits, whether it's a secretly silk-lined hoodie or a pair of shearling-lined UGG Tasman slip-ons.
He finds the UGG Tasman to be a classic model. The lining, he asserted, is what defines the shoe. Elsesser wears them at home and for short trips out, like going to get coffee. He recalled seeing an older man wearing the slippers with very short running shorts and thinking the clash of styles looked cool. Dubbing the shoe a classic, Elsesser's affinity for the silhouette stems from its ability to maintain cultural relevance while staying true to its low-profile persona.
Elsesser's style is heavily influenced by nostalgia. He expressed a love for vintage items, appreciating the history and feeling of a worn T-shirt. Recently, he has been drawn to the color royal blue, a connection rooted in childhood memories. This nostalgic lens extends to his view of the UGG Tasman's signature Chestnut color. He called it a classic, comparing it to Supreme's red or Burberry's tartan as a core brand identifier.
Having started his modeling career in skate lookbooks, Elsesser now leads the UGG campaign. He advised his younger self to be grateful and enjoy such opportunities without taking them too seriously. Reviewing photos from the UGG shoot, lensed by Chris Black, Elsesser observed he was smiling more, which he attributed to feeling comfortable. When asked which fellow rapper would best rock the Tasman, Elsesser named MIKE. He said he could definitely see MIKE wearing them and might need to get him a pair. Reflecting on his personal history with style, Elsesser noted his parents had great style and gave him freedom to experiment as a child, leading to phases of obsession with figures like Bruce Wayne and Bruce Lee. He says this shows he's always been very obsessive about whatever he's into and gets fully into it.
